He and Archangel brawled backstage before the Intercontinental Title match and both he and Archangel did not win the belt, losing to JZ. Pletcher cashed in his rematch for the belt at the Royal Rumble. He lost and due to a pre-match stipulation, he had to be one of the first two entrants in the Rumble. He lasted long until being eliminated by JZ. Pletcher then fought for the World Heavyweight Championship at Elimination Chamber but failed to win. He would go on to defeat Archangel at Wrestlemania 1 in an Extreme Rules match. He lost to Archangel at Summerslam in a tables match. It was reported that Pletcher was granted his release from the company a week after the PPV.
